SEASIDE, Calif. - The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team fell to Cal State L.A., 69-62, tonight in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action at the Kelp Bed.
The Otters drop to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action while CSULA improved to 9-2, 5-2 in conference play.
Sophomore #Davion Berry# was one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 19 points and nine rebounds. Senior #Darroll Phillips# added 12 points and sophomore #Brandon Ward# dished out five assists.
The first half contained five lead changes and four tied scores including one at the break, 34-34.
The Golden Eagles opened the second half with a 8-2 run before Phillips buried a 3-pointer at 14:39.
CSUMB cut the lead to 62-60 on a pair of free throws by Berry, but CSULA answered with a 3-pointer with 37 seconds on the clock.
The Golden Eagles made four of their last five free throws to clinch the victory.
CSULA had four players in double-digits with Franklin Session recording a double-double, 17 points and 13 rebounds. Leland Jones also nabbed a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out.
The Otters were outrebounded, 55-33, but forced CSULA into 18 turnovers.
CSUMB welcomes No. 10 Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Jan 8. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
