SAN FRANCISCO – Tying its lowest scoring outing this year, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team brought home a 49-42 victory over San Francisco State tonight for its 10th victory this season.
The Otters improved to 10-0 overall and 6-0 against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents while the Gators fell to 1-9, 1-5 in conference play.
Senior #Julie Heurung# was the only player tonight to reach double-digits, recording 10 points on top of six rebounds. Junior #Shonetta Crain-Williams# pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Senior #LaShawn Johnson# added nine points and six rebounds.
The game began with a three-minute scoring drought before senior #London Houchin# tipped-in for a bucket. The Gators went on to take a 18-13 lead with less than three minutes remaining in the first half, but the Otters rallied by connecting on three straight 3-pointers to take a 24-18 lead at half.
CSUMB got its largest lead of the game on a pair of free throws by senior #Michelle Santizo# at the 9:31 mark, making it 39-25.
The Gators fought back to cut the lead o 41-38 on a jumper by Mchaela Booker. CSUMB secured the win with a 8-4 run to end the game.
CSUMB won the battle of the boards, 53-35, with 25 coming on the offensive end.
The Otters return home on Friday, Jan. 7 to host Cal State L.A. at 5:30 p.m.
