Berry Leads Otters To Victory Over CSUSB

SEASIDE, Calif.
- Sophomore #Davion Berry# scored a career high 41 points to lead Cal State Monterey Bay past visiting Cal State San Bernardino, 82-80, on Saturday night at the Kelp Bed.

"We had a great team effort tonight," said head coach #Rob Bishop#. "Berry carried us when we needed baskets but we got a great team effort from the entire team. Our rebounding and defense was much better tonight."

Berry had a team-high seven rebounds along with two assists. The scoring was spread among eight other players with sophomores #Derrick Anderson# and #Brandon Ward# contributing 11 and 10 points respectively.

In a game that consisted of 20 lead changes and 15 ties, the Otters held the largest lead of the game at 74-69 with 3:12.

Berry sank a jumper with 21 seconds left to give CSUMB an 80-77 lead, but the Coyotes answered right back when Robbie Robinson connected on his first 3-pointer of the night with 13 seconds left on the clock.  Anderson hit the game winning free throws after driving down the key and drawing a foul on the next possession.  CSUMB's strong defense held the Coyotes from scoring in the final six seconds.

CSUSB's Nate Roth scored a career-high 23 points with Corey Caston adding 16 points and four assists.

The Otters travel to Hayward to take on bay rival Cal State East Bay on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. The Pioneers are at the bottom of the CCAA standings with an 1-13 conference record.
