Otters Shut Down By Wildcats

STOCKTON, Calif.
–  The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team suffered a 5-0 shutout by the Wildcats of Chico State in the first round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tournament on Friday at Arnaiz Field.

The Otters only three hits came off the bats of senior#Niki Ames# and juniors #Cat Sampson# and #Channing Peebles#.

CSUMB's best scoring opportunity came in the fourth inning when Sampson lead off with a one-out double that she stretched to a triple after Chico's center fielder mishandled the ball. The Wildcats got out of the threat with a strikeout and a fly to center.

Chico State got on the board in the top of the fifth on a blooper to first that went off sophomore #Jamie Moon#'s glove.

The Wildcats added four insurance runs off four hits in their last at-bat.

Junior #Diane Ortiz# picked up the loss in the circle, falling to 16-12 on the year.  She gave up nine hits and allowed five run, four earned.

The Otters will play foe Sonoma State on Saturday, May 1 at 4:30 p.m.
