SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team made school history today by claiming the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular season title with a doubleheader sweep over Cal State East Bay. The final scores were 4-1 and 8-0.
The Otters, who have one seven of their last eight games, improved to 32-16 overall and 25-11 in conference play.
Junior #Diane Ortiz# went 5-for-6 with two doubles and a home run on the day. Junior #Nicole Garcia# racked up four hits while sophomore #Jamie Moon# and freshman #Angelina Orozco# added three hits each.
CSUMB will be the top seed in next weekend's CCAA Softball Championships in Stockton. First round games begin Friday, April 30 at Arnaiz Stadium. Follow this

Cal State East Bay scored its only run of the day in the third inning on Nikki Freiberg's double to left center field.
The Otters came out big in the fourth inning, scoring four run on four hits and a CSUEB error. Junior #Shae Olds# reached first on a third strike dropped ball that resulted in an error by the first baseman. Ortiz hit her second home run of the series, a two-run shot down the left line. Junior #Cat Sampson# followed with a single up the middle and scored on Garcia's double to left center.
Ortiz picked up the win in the circle for the Otters, moving to 16-11 on the season. She struck out five batters while giving up four hits and one run.
GAME 2

After a scoreless first inning, the Otters put up three runs in both the second and third innings.
Moon led off with a double down the left line and scored on Ortiz's single up the middle. Sampson's sacrifice bunt advanced Ortiz to second and Garcia followed with a single up the middle to put runners on the corners. Orozco's single scored Ortiz and Garcia to give the Otters a 3-0 lead after two innings.
Olds drew a walk, Moon reached on a fielder's choice and Ortiz singled to load the bases for the Otters. Sampson's single brought freshman #Skyler Valdivia#, pinch running for Olds, and Moon across the plate. Garcia singled through the left side to load the bases again and junior #Channing Peebles# singled to center field to score Ortiz to make it 6-0.
The Otters added another run in the bottom of the fourth Moon's single to score Ames who reached first on a CSUEB error.
CSUMB brought the game to an end in the bottom of the fifth. Garcia led off with a single to shortstop. Senior #Arleen Costa# laid down a bunt for a single. Freshman #Amanda Good#, pinching running for Garcia, scored on an error by CSUEB's first baseman.
