SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team blasted three home runs to sweep today's doubleheader against Cal State East Bay in two five-inning games. The Otters clinched a spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament with the first game win, 10-2 and followed it with a 9-1 victory in the nightcap.
The Otters (30-16, 23-11) are one game behind conference leader, Sonoma State, in the CCAA standings.
Junior #Shae Olds# went 4-for-4 with her ninth home run of the season. Senior #Jenny Montez# led the Otters with six hits, including a double, a triple and a home run for the day.
Junior #Diane Ortiz# picked up her 15 win of the season, throwing a complete first game while giving up three hits and striking out 10 batters. In the second game, classmate #Nicole Garcia# improved her record to 7-3 after limiting the Pioneers to four hits and one unearned run.
CSUMB outhit the Pioneers 29-7 and scored in every inning but one for the day.
The Otters conclude their regular season schedule on Saturday with a doubleheader against CSUEB beginning at noon. After the game, CSUMB will honor its two seniors, #Niki Ames# and #Jenny Montez#.
GAME 1

The Otters did not waste any time getting on the board, scoring three runs on four hits in the first inning. Freshman #Angelina Orozco# led off with a single and Montez drove her in with a home run over left center. Senior #Niki Ames# scored on a single by junior #Cat Sampson# after being hit by a pitch.
Olds hit an RBI single in the second inning to make it 4-0.
CSUMB added four runs in the bottom of the third after connecting on five hits and taking advantage of a CSUEB error. Sophomore #Jamie Moon# led off with a double and Ortiz followed with a single to put runners at the corners. Garcia reached on an error, scoring Moon. Junior #Channing Peebles# hit a sacrifice fly and Orozco singled. Montez hit a 2 RBI double off the right center wall to end CSUMB's scoring at 8-0.
The Pioneers put up two runs in the top of the fourth on two hits.
Sampson's sacrifice fly in the fourth inning made it 9-2 and Ames singled through the left side to end the game at 10-2.
GAME 2

In the nightcap, the Pioneers got on the board first with three hits and one CSUMB error in the opening inning.
The Otters answered with four runs in their first at-bat, scoring on Olds' three-run homer and Sampson's triple.
After a scoreless second inning, added two more runs in the bottom of the third. Olds was rewarded first after being hit by a pitch. Ortiz, on the second pitch she faced, crushed the ball but it just missed hitting the left field foul post. The very next pitch, she took it over the left center wall for her third homer of the season.
The Otters put up a solo run in the fourth, scoring on Moon's single through the right side.
In the fifth inning, Montez drove in two runs on a triple to conclude the game at 9-1.
