Olds racks up two homers, Ortiz notches first home run of season

SEASIDE, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team out hit the Gators of San Francisco State, 25-12, for a sweep in Friday's doubleheader, 6-2 and 12-3.

Sophomore #Jamie Moon# hit .857 (6-for-7) with a double and four runs while batting in three runs.  Junior #Niki Ames# went 5-for-7 with a double, two runs and 3 RBI.  Junior #Shae Olds# hit back-to-back home runs in her final two at-bats the day to become the conference leader with eight on the year.  Junior #Diane Ortiz# picked up the two wins after throwing 7.1 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out six batters.

Both teams return to the field on Saturday at 12 p.m. with a doubleheader to complete the four-game series.

GAME 1

The Otters took a 2-0 lead after the first inning.  Freshman #Angelina Orozco# led off with a single and senior #Jennifer Montez# moved her to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Moon hit a single up the middle to score Orozco.  Ames singled to center field to bring Moon home for the second run of the game.

CSUMB added another three runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Junior #Nicole Garcia# led off with a walk and moved to second on junior #Cat Sampson#'s sacrifice bunt.  Junior #Channing Peebles# hit a ground-ruled double over right center wall to score Garcia. Montez singled to bring Peebles in and then scored on Moon's single to center field to give the Otters a 5-0 lead after three.

The Otters scored an additional run in the fifth inning when Moon led off with a double and Ames took her place on second, driving her home.

The Gators prevented a shutout with two runs in their last at bat.

GAME 2

Orozco led off the first inning with a triple to left center and scored on Moon's bunt hit to give CSUMB a 1-0 lead.

SF State took its first lead of the day in the second inning, scoring two runs on two hits and a CSUMB error.

CSUMB's bats lit up in the bottom of the third, recording seven consecutive hits and scoring five runs to give the Otters back the lead at 6-2.

The Gators scored their final run of the day on a bases loaded walk.

Olds racked up a solo home run in the fourth inning and followed it with a three-run blast two innings later.

In the sixth inning, Ortiz crushed a two-run walk-off homer with two outs on the board to end the game at 12-3 due to the eight-run rule.
