LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team came into Friday's doubleheader with something to prove after falling four spots in the regional rankings this past week.  After a 2-1, 9-5 sweep over a strong UC San Diego squad, the Otters have found their rhythm once again.

Junior #Nicole Garcia#, sophomore #Jamie Moon# and freshman #Angelina Orozco# each had three hits for the day.   Senior #Jenny Montez# hit a three-run bomb to put the Otters ahead in the second game. Junior #Diane Ortiz# got both wins today, giving up only one run in 11 innings. She threw her 13th complete game in the opener.

The Otters conclude their final road series of the season tomorrow again the Tritons with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.

GAME 1

After five and half scoreless innings, the Tritons took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth on Jennifer De Fazio's single to score Nicole Spangler.

Ortiz got revenge in the next half inning, crushing the game-winning two-run homer to give the Otters a 2-1 victory.

UCSD took a quick 1-0 lead in its first at bat on the first hit of the game.

The Otters took advantage of a Triton error in the top of the second that put leadoff batter, junior #Shae Olds#, on second base.   Garcia drove pinch runner freshman #Skyler Valdivia# in to tie the game at 1-1.

The Tritons answered with three runs in the bottom of the second and added another in the following inning to take a 5-1 lead after three. 

CSUMB's big inning came in the top of the fourth, as the Otters racked up six runs to take a 7-5 lead.  The rally was capped off by Montez's three-run homer, her fourth of the season.

The Otters added two insurance runs in their final at-bat.  Olds earned a full-count walk and Moon followed with a double down the left line.  Garcia hit a 2 RBI single to score Olds and Moon.
