CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team pulled out a 5-3 victory in the closing game against Cal State Dominguez Hills and prevented a series sweep on Saturday afternoon. The Otters fell 11-2 in the open game of the doubleheader.
Seniors #Niki Ames# and #Jenny Montez# led the Otters with three hits apiece. Montez recorded her third home run of the year and Ames nabbed a double and a triple on the day. Sophomore #Jamie Moon#'s lone hit today was her first home run of the season.
Junior #Nicole Garcia# earned her sixth win of the season while junior #Diane Ortiz# falls to 11-10 on the year.
The Otters play their final road series of the regular season next weekend in La Jolla, taking on UC San Diego.
GAME 1

The Otters got on the board in their first at-bat when Montez crushed a homer over the left center wall.
CSUDH scored five runs on one hit and three CSUMB errors in the second inning.
CSUMB scored its final run of the game in the third inning. Junior #Channing Peebles# led off with a single and stole second to get into scoring position. Ames tripled to center field to score Peebles, 5-2 CSUDH.
The Toros came up with another big inning, scoring six runs off four hits in the fourth. Michelle Miranda led off with a home run and Rose Vargas hit a 2 RBI double. Jackie Reyes ended the scoring with a three-run homer.
GAME 2

CSUDH took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, scoring on a CSUMB error.
The Otters got on top with three runs in the third inning. Montez singled and Ames followed with a double. Junior #Shae Olds# crushed a 2 RBI double to score Montez and Ames. Senior #Arleen Costa# came in to run for Olds and scored on Ortiz's double.
The Toros added a run in their side of the inning on Caitlin McGrath's single to right center.
Moon's two-run homer came in the top of the fifth to make it 5-2.
CSUDH concluded the scoring with a sacrifice fly to score Katie Garcia who reached on an error.
