SEASIDE, Calif. – The No. 17 Cal State Monterey Bay softball team improved to 11-3 with a doubleheader shutout sweep over Cal State San Bernardino on Friday afternoon. The Otters squeezed by 1-0 in the first game before recording a 5-0 shutout in game two.
With this win, the Otters are 9-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play while the Coyotes dropped to 6-11, 5-5 in conference action.
Junior #Cat Sampson# went 2-for-4 with a home run and junior #Channing Peebles# also went 2-for-4 with a double. Senior #Niki Ames# recorded two hits with two runs.
GAME 1

After three and half scoreless innings, the Otters scored the lone run of the game in their half of the fourth. With two outs on the board, Ames was rewarded first base after drawing a walk. Peebles doubled to left center to score Ames.
Junior #Diane Ortiz# notched her third shutout complete game of the season. She allowed three hits while striking out four batters.
The Otters conclude the four-game series on Saturday, Mar. 6 with a doubleheader at noon.

CSUMB put three runs up on the board in the third inning. Ames hit a lead-off single to shortstop and Peebles drew a walk. Pinch hitter #Amanda Guzman# singled to center field to load the bases. Junior #Nicole Garcia# brought Ames home with a sacrifice fly to right field. An error by CSUSB's first baseman scored the next two runners give the Otters a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Sampson crushed her first pitch over the center field wall.
Senior #Jennifer Montez# repeated Sampson's feat in the fifth, taking her first pitch over the wall in left center.
Sophomore #Jessica Moon# improved to 3-0 on the year with the win. She struck out eight batters, while walking two and allowing just three hits.
