SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team recorded its first series victory over Humboldt State in program history with a 3-2 win in the first game. The Otters fell 3-0 in the series finale.
Junior #Diane Ortiz# picked up the win in the circle for the Otters, moving to 7-5 on the season. She struck out three batters, while giving up four hits and walking three.
Offensively, junior #Shae Olds# led CSUMB with three hits and a RBI. Junior #Nicole Garcia# and sophomore #Caydi Dommeyer# each had two hits including one double on the day.
GAME 1

The Lumberjacks jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning on two hits and a CSUMB error. Kirsten Nouzovsky crushed a RBI double to left center, scoring Nikki Ketteringham after leading off with a single. Courtney Hiatt who reached first on a walk, scored on an error by CSUMB shortstop.
The Otters tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth. Olds led off with a single to center field and senior #Arleen Costa# entered as a pinch runner. With one out, sophomore #Jamie Moon# singled down the left line to score Costa. Dommeyer crushed a RBI single through the right side to bring Moon across the plate.
In the fifth inning, Olds hit the game winning RBI single to center field to score Garcia after she doubled with two outs.
The Otters outhit the Lumberjacks 8-4 in game one.
GAME 2

HSU's Vaneza Hoover pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out two batters and walking just one.
After four scoreless innings, Humboldt State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth. With bases loaded, Chrissy Stalf hit a 2 RBI single down the left line.
The Lumberjacks added an insurance run in the top of seventh when Hiatt connected on a RBI single to right center.
Sophomore #Jessica Moon# picked up her second loss of the season, giving up three runs on nine hits and striking out four batters.
