Otters Swept By Seawolves

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.
– The No. 18 Cal State Monterey Bay softball team was swept for the first time this season, falling to the Seawolves of Sonoma State, 3-0 and 6-4, on Sunday afternoon.

The Otters fall to 13-7 overall and 11-5 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action while the Seawolves improved to 18-5, 13-3 in conference play.

Seniors #Jenny Montez# and #Niki Ames# led the Otters with three hits apiece.  Ames hit a 2-run homer in the second game, her second of the season.

The Otters return home next weekend, hosting Humboldt State in a four-game series. First pitch is on Friday, March 19 at 1 p.m.

The Seawolves took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Danielle D'Eccliss led off the inning with a triple to right field and scored on a single by Janelle Arnold.

Sonoma State added another run in the fourth inning and added an insurance run in the sixth inning to secure a 3-0 victory.

SSU's Julianne Martinez nabbed the victory, limiting the Otters to just three hits. Sophomore #Jessica Moon# recorded her first loss, giving up three runs on eight hits.

Ames got the Otters on the board quickly with a two-run homer down the left field line, scoring Montez who kicked off the closing game of the series with a single.

Sonoma State answered with three runs in the bottom of the second with three hits and one CSUMB error. 

The Seawolves added another run in the next inning after Stroud led off with a triple to right center. Britton followed with an RBI single to center field.

After junior #Cat Sampson# hit a one-out double to left field in the top of the sixth, junior #Shae Olds# doubled down the right line to add another run for the Otters, 4-3.

The Seawolves wouldn't go away quietly, notching two more runs on three hits in their side of the inning.

The Otters attempted a rally in the top of the seventh when Montez drew a walk and Ames singled down the right line. Junior #Marisa Trujillo# singled through the right side, scoring Montez, 6-4.  Solid pitching by Sonoma State clinched the 6-4 victory and a 3-1 series win.
