Softball Shuts Out No. 11 Humboldt State, 2-0

TURLOCK, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team shutout No. 11 Humboldt State, 2-0, in the second game of the Best of the West Invitational on Friday.  After a two-hour morning delay, the Otters fell 7-1 in their season opener to Grand Canyon University. 

Against Humboldt State, junior right fielder #Channing Peebles# went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Otters.

CSUMB got its first run in the second inning when Peebles singled to right center to drive in senior #Niki Ames# who reached first after being hit by a pitch.

The Otters scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Peebles doubled to center, scoring junior #Cat Sampson#. 

In the season opener, Grand Canyon jumped out a 4-0 lead in the second inning.  The Otters lone run came in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Ames.

CSUMB resumes play on Saturday, Feb. 6, taking on Cal State San Bernardino at 10:45 a.m. This will be the first game for the Coyotes in the BWI.
