SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team ended the regular season with a bang, shooting 71.1 percent from the field to defeat host Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday night.
The Otters enter the post season with a program-best 18 victories overall and 14 against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponents.
For the first time in program history, five CSUMB players reached double-digits since making the move to NCAA Division II. Junior #Julie Heurung# and #Michelle Santizo# both registered double-digits. Heurung went 8-for-10 for 16 points with 10 rebounds while Santizo finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Senior #Lindsay Trout# recorded 15 points, going 3-for-4 from the arc. Senior #Veronica Williams# scored 12 points and junior #LaShawn Johnson# added 11 points.
The Otters led 44-31 at the halftime break courtesy of an 81.0 field goal percentage.
CSUMB continued its hot shooting in the second half, raising the gap to 16 points on a layup by Trout with just over 11 minutes remaining.
The Coyotes attempted a comeback with two free throws by Krystal Urzua to make it 67-58 with 2:32 on the clock.
CSUMB finished the game with five baskets at the charity stripe to clinch the victory.
The Otters won the battle of the board 38-29, but the Coyotes recorded 22 offensive rebounds.
