SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team got back on the winning track on Saturday night with a 69-47 victory over the Eagles of Cal State L.A. at the Kelp Bed.
With only four games of regular season remaining, the Otters improved to 15-7 overall and 11-7 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play while the Eagles dropped to 4-19, 2-16 in conference action.
Senior forward #Veronica Williams# led the Otter offense with 21 points while recording two steals. Junior guard #Michelle Santizo# 11 of her 16 points in the second half. Freshman #Holy Holcomb# tied a career-high of 11 points and eight rebounds. Freshman #Jessica Fontenette# dished out three assists while six Otters finished with two each.
The Otters went on a 13-0 run to in the final four and half minutes of the first half, taking a 37-22 lead into the break.
CSUMB cruised through the second half by never allowing the Eagles within more than eight points.
With less than six minutes remaining, Santizo hit a shot clock beater 3-pointer to give the Otters a 57-42. She followed with another trey 35 seconds later, giving CSUMB an 18 point lead.
CSULA won the battle of the boards, 31-17, with 12 on the offensive side.
The Otters wrap up their regular season home schedule next weekend, hosting Cal State East Bay on Friday, Feb. 19 at the Otter Sports Center. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
