Otters Sweep First CCAA Weekend

TURLOCK, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team faced off with Cal State Stanislaus, once again for CCAA play, capturing two victories, 6-4 and 9-7.  The Otters made program history with a four-game sweep over the Warriors.

Junior catcher  #Shae Olds# went 2-for-6 with two 3-run homers in the first inning of each game. Sophomore #Jamie Moon# went 3-for-4 with four runs. Junior third baseman #Cat Sampson# went 3-for-8 with two doubles and seven RBI including the game winning three.

The game started off with a bang as Moon was awarded first base, by being hit by a pitch. The Warriors freshmen pitcher, Brittani Weatherford walked junior #Nicole Garcia#. Olds blasted a shot over the right center field wall as the Otters jumped on the board first with three runs.

CSUMB took advantage of the opportunities presented to them in the third inning. Senior second basemen #Jenny Montez# was hit by a pitch. Moon drew another walk. The Otter runners then advanced on a wild pitch. Sampson singled through the left side scoring both Montez and Moon. 

The Warriors fought back in the bottom of the third by stringing together three singles and a triple to put them on the board for the first time on Saturday. 

Junior #Shannon Bailey# answered with a home run over the left field fence in the fourth inning, 6-3.

CSUS added another run in their side of the fourth to make the score, 6-4.

The nightcap got off another quick start as the Otters jumped on the board first. Moon and Garcia set the stage, once again for Olds. The junior catcher slammed a full-count pitch over the right center field fence. 

The Warriors scored in the bottom of the second inning off of a bases loaded walk. 

The Otters took a 5-1 lead in the top of the third inning. Sampson hit a double down the left line, scoring Montez and Garcia, both walked to get on base.

In the fourth inning CSUS scored three runs as they banded together to hit two singles, two doubles and drawing two walks.

The Warriors posted two runs to take their first lead of the day in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 6-5.

CSUS scored its last run of the series in the sixth inning off of two hits.

Bailey started off the seventh inning with a single. The Otters once again took advantage of the opportunities given to them. Bailey advanced to second on a throwing error as freshmen #Angelina Orozco# reached first on the fielder's choice. Bailey scored on a wild pitch and Orozco advanced to third. Moon and Olds both walked to get on base. Sampson doubled to left field clearing the bases to make the final score 9-7.

The Otters will host Chico State at the Otter Softball Field on Friday, Feb. 19 at 1 PM.
