MEN'S BASKETBALL
OPENING TIP: The Otters look to kickoff the second part of the CCAA season with a new determination after dropping four of their eight conference losses by a total of six points. CSUMB travels to Chico State on Friday, Jan 29, before heading east for a match-up against Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday, Jan. 30.

EARLIER SERIES: The Otters opened their conference season with a 73-67 overtime victory over Stanislaus on Dec. 4 with freshman Davion Berry scoring a game-high 17 points. CSUMB followed the win with a heartbreaker, falling to Chico State, 74-73, on a time-running down layup.

CCAA STAT RANKINGS: Against conference opponents, the Otters are second in steals (7.8) while third in free throw percentage (72.6) and defensive rebounds (24.2).  Freshman #Davion Berry# - 5th in scoring (14.1), 14th in steals (1.2), 3rd in 3-point field goal percentage (43.3), 13th in free throw percentage (78.1).  Senior #Sean Jergo# - 2nd in rebounding (7.3), 2nd in defensive rebounds (5.0), 6th in offensive rebounds (2.3), 11th in free throw percentage (79.5) and 15th in blocked shots (0.5). Junior #Ian Hosford# - 16th in rebounding (5.3) and 7th in defensive rebounds (4.2),  Senior #Kris Jones# - 14th in steals (1.2)  Senior #Shaun Williams# - 10th steals (1.4) and13th in 3-point field goal percentage (36.4).

NATIONAL STAT RANKINGS: CSUMB is ranked in the top 100 in four categories; free-throw percentage (72.2 - 50th), 3-point field goal defense (31.5 - 69th), field-goal percentage defense (41.8 - 75th) and steals per game (8.1 - 94th).

THE WILDCATS: Chico State (10-6, 6-5 CCAA) has lost four of its last five games, capped by a 55-40 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills.  Players to Watch: Jon Baird (14.1 ppg, 90.0 ft pct); Terence Pellum (11.1 ppg, 5.6 rpg); Roderick Hawkins (10.9 ppg., 6.8 rpg).

THE WARRIORS: Cal State Stanislaus (8-8, 4-7 CCAA) was the first CCAA team to defeat first place Cal State San Bernardino on Jan. 3. Players to Watch: Chad Johnson (11.0 ppg, 2.1 apg); Frank Monge (9.4 ppg, 7.1 rpg); Jordan Stokes (9.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

PREVIOUS OUTING: After a heartbreaking loss to Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, Jan. 22, the Otters rebounded by knocking off first place Cal Poly Pomona, 60-54, on Saturday, Jan. 23.

CCAA STAT RANKINGS: Against conference opponents, the Otters is first in 3-point field goals average (7.3) and second in free throw percentage (69.5). Senior #Veronica Williams# - 8th in scoring (12.9), 1st in 3-point field goals average (2.6), 3-point field goal percentage (33.3), 17th in rebounding (6.0) and 8th in defensive rebounding (5.1).  Senior #Helen Suarez# - 15th in scoring (6.3), 4th in free throw percentage (83.3), 14th in assists (2.2), 14th in 3-point field goal average (1.1) and 15th in steals (1.4). Junior #Julie Heurung# - 7th in blocked shots (1.2), 12th in offensive rebounding (2.6) and 15th in rebounding (6.3). NATIONAL STAT RANKINGS: CSUMB is ranked in the top 100 in eight categories: scoring defense (57.1, 31st), 3-point field goals per game (7.0, 45th), won-lost percentage (73.3, 48th),  field goal percentage defense (37.2, 75th), turnover per game (17.7, 76th), rebound margin (3.0 - 79th), 3-point field goal defense (29.6, 89th) and scoring margin (4.7, 90th). Senior #Veronica Williams# is ranked 97th in 3-point field goals per game (2.1) and 102nd in 3-point field goal percentage (33.3). Senior #Helen Suarez# is 155th in free-throw percentage (76.6).

THE WILDCATS: Chico State (9-7, 6-5 CCAA) started the conference season strong with a 3-0 record but has lost its last five of seven games. Player to Watch: Natasha Smith (10.6 ppg, 3.6 apg); Melissa Richardson (10.6 ppg, 4.1 rpg); Pauline Ferrall (9.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg).

THE WARRIORS:  Cal State Stanislaus (4-1, 3-8 CCAA) pulled off a 62-59 victory over Cal State L.A. on Saturday, Jan. 23. Players to Watch: Katie Busi (15.7 ppg, 11.7 rpg); Alishea Kelly (15.4 ppg, 6.7 rpg); Andreanna Marshall (8.9 ppg, 3.7 rpg).

WOMEN'S WATER POLO
UPCOMING GAMES: CSUMB competes in the NorCal Tournament hosted by Cal in Berkeley. The Otters take on three top 10 team including No. 1 Stanford.

PREVIOUS WEEKEND: CSUMB split in its opening weekend of the 2010 season, falling to Azusa Pacific, 9-8, before rebounding with an 11-8 victory over host Fresno Pacific. Junior #Chloe McRae# led the Otters with four goals while senior #Heather Penna# notched three goals.  Senior goalkeeper #Sarah Ford# nabbed 15 saves in the two games.
