MEN'S BASKETBALL
OPENING TIP: The Otters kickoff the new year by hosting Humboldt State and Sonoma State on Jan 2-3 at the Otter Sports Center.

PREVIOUS OUTING: CSUMB fell to rival San Francisco State, 60-58, on Dec. 29 at the Kelp Bed. Freshman #Davion Berry# led the Otters, scoring all his 10 points in the first half. Senior #Shaun Williams# finished with eight points and senior #Keith Wilson# added seven. Junior #Ian Hosford# recorded a team-high seven rebounds and three assists.
CCAA STAT RANKINGS: The Otters continues to lead the conference in free throw percentage (74.3), steals (8.4) and 3-point field goal percentage (37.1). Freshman #Davion Berry# is in five categories: eighth in scoring (13.3), fourth in free throw percentage (84.0), fifth in steals (1.7), 10th in field goal percentage (52.9) and 12th in assists (2.5). Senior #Keith Wilson# ranks 13th in scoring (11.7), third in free throw percentage (88.9) and second in 3-point field goal percentage (51.9). THE LUMBERJACKS: Humboldt State (6-3, 3-1 CCAA) is on a three-game winning streak, topped by a 96-55 victory at Sonoma State on Dec. 22. The Seawolves pulled off a 65-50 victory over the Lumberjacks just 10 days earlier. Players to Watch: Brian Morris (15.9 ppg, 5.8 rpg); Zac Tiedeman (12.0 ppg, 4.1 apg); Kevin Atkins (11.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg).
THE SEAWOLVES: Sonoma State (3-6, 2-2 CCAA) opened the conference season with 76-75 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills before falling to Cal State L.A.,77-72, the next day. The Seawolves pulled off a 65-50 upset against Humboldt State in Arcata before falling to the Lumberjacks 96-55 in Rhonert Park. Players to Watch: Steven Pratt (12.3 ppg, 1.7 rpg); Mike Nelson (9.8 ppg, 58.8 3-pt fg pct), Chad Chambers (7.3 ppg, 5.2 rpg).
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
OPENING TIP: The Otters return to CCAA action this weekend, welcoming Humboldt State and Sonoma State to the Kelp Bed.
PREVIOUS OUTING: Senior #Veronica Williams# and junior #Julie Heurung# each scored 12 points to help the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team clinch a 70-57 victory over Dominican University on Monday, Dec. 28 in non-conference action. Junior #LaShawn Johnson# finished with nine points while seniors #Helen Suarez# and #Jazz Herrera# added eight points each. Freshman #Holly Holcomb# and Williams pulled down a game-high eight boards. Suarez dished a season-high seven assists.
CCAA STAT RANKINGS: The Otters are showing that they have one of the strongest defense in the conference, leading the CCAA in 3-point field goal percentage defense (24.7) and rebounding defense (33.2). Senior

THE LUMBERJACKS: Humboldt State (6-2, 4-0 CCAA) leads the CCAA standings with a sweep over Sonoma State and victories against Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A. In their last outing of 2009, the Lumberjacks fell to Northwest Nazarene, 80-66, in the Humboldt State Classic. Players to Watch: Brittney Taylor (18.8 ppg, 6.4 rpg); Bree Halsey (10.8 ppg, 9.3 rpg); Andrea Bobic (10.1 ppg, 32.0 3-pt fg pct).
THE SEAWOLVES: Sonoma State (4-5, 2-2 CCAA) has lost its last four-games including a 77-59 loss to Humboldt State on Dec. 8 in Arcata. The Seawolves were swept in the CCAA/GNAC Challenge, falling to No. 20 Seattle Pacific (59-51) and Western Washington (66-58).
