RROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team (2-6-2, 1-4-1 CCAA) battled the Seawolves of Sonoma State (4-4-2, 2-2-2 CCAA) to a 2-2 tie this afternoon at Seawolf Stadium. CSUMB goalkeeper #Andrea Davis#, who leads the CCAA in saves, recorded nine in the contest.
Despite finishing with more than double the number of shots each period, the Seawolves were only able to score two goals due to the strong Otter defense.
The Seawolves got on the board first on their second shot of the game when Allison Kern scored off a pass by Katie Parucha.
Sonoma State's lead, however, would be short-lived as the Otters drew even in the 10th minute when freshman #Marlina Massagli# nailed a shot off the crossbar and down into the goal off a cross from senior #Krysta Vukas#.
CSUMB took its first lead of the game in the 28th minute when junior #Annie Schlimmer# was able to rebound a shot from senior #Sarah Alderson# and punch it in from a short distance.
In the 54th minute, Sonoma State tied the game once again at 2-2 on Kern's second goal of the day.
The Otters led 4-3 in corner kicks and committed six less fouls than the Seawolves (12-6).
CSUMB returns to the field on Friday, Oct. 2 when it takes on Chico State at 7 p.m.
