ARCATA, Calif. – Despite a late second half goal by Cal State Monterey Bay freshman #Korie Soares#, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks held off a late-charging Otter offense, to win Friday evening's women's soccer contest 2-1 at the Redwood Bowl.
Humboldt State moves to 6-3 (3-2 CCAA) with the win, while CSUMB falls to 2-6-1 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Eight minutes into the game, HSU's Kim Carroll headed in a pass from Sarah Nakamoto to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead.
The Jacks received an insurance goal ten minutes into the second half from Arielle Kern, who lobbed a shot over CSUMB goalkeeper #Andrea Davis#.
CSUMB's goal came from Soares, who took a pass from freshman #Marlina Massagli# and crushed the ball to the far post.
Davis had six saves on the night, taking the number one spot in the conference in saves.
CSUMB travels to Sonoma State on Sunday, Sept. 27 in Rohnert Park for another CCAA game. Kickoff is 11:30 a.m.
