SEASIDE, Calif. – A showdown between Cal State Monterey Bay and No. 4 Cal State L.A. went 90 hard-fought and scoreless minutes, but it took less than two for it to all to come to a sudden end for the Otters. A breakaway allowed Aza Gomez to find the back of the net in the 98th minute to lead the Eagles to a 1-0 overtime win.
With the loss, CSUMB falls to 1-4-1 and 1-1-1 in CCAA play. CSULA improves to 5-0-1, 3-0-1 CCAA.
Otter keeper #Brenden Baca# and the CSUMB defense played a major role in keeping the Otters afloat during the 90 minutes of regulation.
The Eagles held a 16-3 advantage in shots but many of the CSULA's chances sailed high and wide of the goal, as the team could only manage to put five attempts on frame the entire day.
CSUMB's #Grant Robson# recorded two shots, one shot on goal, with #Eric Alsop# nabbing the other shot.
The first half had an even amount of play on each side of the center line, while the later half had CSUMB playing mostly defense against the strong CSULA offense.
The Otters return to the field on Sunday, Sept. 20 to host Cal State Dominguez Hills. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
