Box Score

TURLOCK, Calif.
– Junior #Shelair Rowell# recorded two doubles, three home runs and 16 RBI in six games of the Tournament of Champions, but the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team saw their dominating run come to an end, falling 8-4 to No. 11 Hawaii Pacific in the first round of the Gold Bracket.

Senior #Jessica Boyle# took the loss for CSUMB, giving up 11 hits and eight earned runs in six innings of work.  The 11 hits were the most she has given up since her sophomore year on May 23, 2007 against San Francisco State.

Junior #Niki Ames# went 3-for-4 to lead the CSUMB offense, while Rowell had two hits and drove in three of the four CSUMB runs.  Freshman #Jamie Moon# also recorded two hits for the Otters.

The Sea Warriors jumped out in front in the top of the first inning. After a double and a sacrifice bunt, Krystal Plunkett grounded out to second for a RBI.

HPU added three more runs in the third inning on a 2 RBI single and a wild pitch.

CSUMB fought back by tying the game in the fifth inning.  Sophomore #Shae Olds# hit a RBI single up the middle.  Rowell crushed a three-run homer over the left field wall for her third home run of the tournament.

Unfortunately, the Sea Warriors bats remained hot as they scored two runs off three hits in the sixth inning and added two more runs in the seventh inning on three hits.

With the loss, the Otters saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end.  Rowell went 11-for-17 (.647) at the plate while striking out 10 batters in two complete-game appearances at the tournament. Senior #Ashlee Trotter# and Ames both went 7-for-17 (.412).

The Otters return home to continue California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Friday, April 10, hosting Chico State at the Otter Softball Field. First pitch of the doubleheader is 1 p.m.
