SEASIDE, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team dropped its regular season and home doubleheader finale to the Tritons of UC San Diego by scores of 10-4 and 4-1.  Sophomore #Shae Olds# recorded her 14th and 15th home runs of the season and is now the new California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) single season home run record holder.

In the opener, the Tritons got a run in the first inning on a single by Nicole Saari down the left line, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

UCSD extended its lead in the second inning, scoring four runs off four hits and a CSUMB error.

The Otters got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning, recording three runs on two hits.  Junior #Jennifer Montez# drew a walk to lead off the inning.  Freshman #Jamie Moon# doubled off the left field wall and Olds reached first after four straight balls to load the bases. All three runners advanced on a wild pitch by UCSD's pitcher.  Junior #Lucia Rodriguez# blasted a 2 RBI double off the right field wall, closing the gap to 5-3 UCSD.

The Tritons distanced themselves in the seventh inning by racking up five runs, highlighted by Allison May's first home run of the season.

With one out, Olds crushed her 14th home run over the right field wall in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the nightcap, the Otters felt a bit of déjà-vu when UCSD scored four runs in the second inning.

CSUMB's lone run came in its final at-bat with two outs.  Olds connected on her 15th home run on the

second pitch she faced, breaking the CCAA single season record.

“Our emotions got the best of us today,” said Otters head coach Andrea Kenney. “UCSD played well.

“I am very proud of our second place finish and look forward to the playoffs.”

Following the second game, CSUMB honored its seven seniors; softball program's first four-year letterwinners Ashlee Trotter and Jessica Boyle along with Rachelle Morales, Easton Henrickson, Michelle Tating, Alma Lopez and Valerie Calderon.

After yesterday's sweep over UC San Diego, the Otters have secured the No. 2 seed in the CCAA Tournament that begins next Thursday, April 30.  The bracket will be announced after the today's CCAA games have concluded.
