TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team took its series with Cal State Stanislaus, 3-1, with a day two sweep, 1-0 and 6-2, on Saturday at Warrior Softball Field.
The Otters improve to 18-10 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play and 31-23-1 overall, while the Warriors drop to 26-18 overall and 13-15 in league. With the sweep, the Otters move into second place in the CCAA standings.
In game one, CSUMB shutout Stanislaus by recording the lone run in the fourth inning. Leadoff batter #Jamie Moon# doubled to left field and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by junior #Niki Ames#. Sophomore #Shae Olds# crushed a single to center field to score Moon.
Senior #Jessica Boyle# (12-11) recorded her fifth complete game shutout of the season, giving up only five hits and striking out seven batters. She also tallied her 450th career strikeout.
The Otters jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Warriors answered in the bottom of the frame with two runs of their own. Those were the only runs the Otters gave up in the game.
Sophomore #Jennifer Montez# led off with a double to right center and advanced to third on a single by Ames. Olds then connected on a RBI single on the first pitch she saw, taking it through the right side.
The Stanislaus's two runs came off a 2 RBI triple by Arnold with two outs on the board.
CSUMB tied the game in the third inning on a RBI single by Olds after Ames led off with a double to left field.
The Otters retook the lead in the fourth inning by putting up two runs. Trotter began the inning with a single to left field and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by senior #Rachelle Morales#. Senior #Valerie Calderon# and Montez each drew walks to load the bases. Moon's patience drew an RBI walk and Ames hit a sacrifice fly to center to score the final run of the inning.
CSUMB added two insurance runs in the seventh, both on wild pitches.
Senior #Michelle Tating# picked up the victory after throwing 6.1 innings. She racked up five strikeouts while allowing only three hits.

With the sweep, the Otters move into second place in the CCAA standings.
The Otters host Grand Canyon University in a non-conference single game on Sunday, April 19, at the Otter Softball Field. First pitch is at 12 p.m.
