SEASIDE, Calif. – Junior shortstop #Niki Ames# crushed a walk-off two-run homer over the left field wall to give the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team an 8-0 six-inning victory over the Chico State in the nightcap of their doubleheader on Friday.  CSUMB dropped a 3-2 decision to the Wildcats in the opener.

Sophomore catcher #Shae Olds# hit a home run in each game and now leading the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in home runs with 11 this season.  Freshman #Jamie Moon# racked up her second collegiate homer in the second game.

In the nightcap, junior #Shelair Rowell# scored CSUMB's first run on a Wildcat error in the second inning. Olds hit a one-out home run in the third inning, giving the Otters a 2-0 lead.  Moon's two-run home run came in the fourth inning after senior #Rachelle Morales# led off with a single to right center.

The Wildcats got to third base twice in the game.  In the first inning, senior #Jessica Boyle# struck out  cleanup batter Christina Wieck to strand Charlotte Honciano on third base.  Boyle forced Honciano to fly out to right field with Kait Manning on third.

In the first game, Olds' two-run homer in the first inning was the only runs the Otters put up on the board. 

The Wildcats scored in the second inning on a passed ball and two more runs in the fourth inning on three hits and a CSUMB error.

Boyle pitched a two-hitter seven-inning first game, with five strikeouts and all three runs were unearned.

Olds is currently on a 11-game hitting streak, the second longest in school history.  Senior #Ashlee Trotter# holds the record by getting a hit in 14 consecutive games during her freshman year.

CSUMB and Chico State return to the field for the second doubleheader of the series on Saturday, April 11, with first pitch set at 11 a.m.
