Game Notes
FIRST PITCH:
Continuing the homestead, after splitting the weekend 2-2 against No. 5 regionally-ranked Sonoma State, the Otters host the Wolves of Western Oregon University. In this non-conference match-up, CSUMB leads the series 3-2.
NEXT WEEK:
The Otters return home for conference games against the Chico State Wildcats. First double-header is slotted for 1:00 p.m.
SCOUTING THE WOLVES:
Western Oregon University (13-8, 13-8 GNAC) is coming off a 8-0 shutout over the Wolves of Northwest Nazarene. Jessica Hallmark led WOU with four RBI as she went 1-for-2 at the plate with two walks and two runs scored. Bailey Rueck was 3-for-3 in the game with an RBI and a double. For the game, Western Oregon put 19 runners on base compared to four for Northwest Nazarene and eight of the nine WOU starters had a base hit while seven of the nine scored a run. Top hitters: Tyler Sutherland (.457 avg, 32 H, 17 RBI, 15 2B, 3 HR); Jessica Hallmark (.339 avg, 20 H, 24 RBI, 5 2B, 7 HR); Amanda Fleer (.361 avg, 22 H, 9 RBI, 6 2B, 3HR).
TOURNAMENT PREVIEW:
CSUMB carries forward in more tournament action, returning to Turlock to compete in the Tournament of Champions, presented by Mizuno. The Otters are guaranteed five games and will open the tournament against the Vikings of WWU, Apr. 3 at 1:30 p.m. Other teams featured in the tournament are: Western Washington, Central Washington, Northwest Nazarene, Western Oregon, and Saint Martin's University.
RODRIGUEZ EARNS THIRD CCAA WEEKLY ACOLADE:
Cal State Monterey Bay's #Lucia Rodriguez# earned her third Worth/California Collegiate Athletic Association's Softball Player of the Week of the year for the week of March 16-22.The junior outfielder from Rialto, Calif. continued her fine offensive season as she helped the Otters gain a split in their four-game series split with No. 5 regionally-ranked Sonoma State. Rodriguez batted .538 (7-for-13) with six runs, three home runs and seven RBI.
