ARCATA, Calif.
– Six Cal State Monterey Bay home runs propelled the Otters softball team to a 14-6 nightcap victory over Humboldt State, preventing a conference series sweep by the Lumberjacks on Saturday in Arcata. The Otters fell 11-5 in the first game.

CSUMB moves to 16-18-1 overall and 10-6 in the CCAA as the Jacks' record changes to 21-7 overall and 14-6 in CCAA play.

The Otters jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap, scoring three unearned runs before junior #Niki Ames# blasted a solo homer.

HSU closed the gap after a single run in the first inning and a two-run homer in the third.

Senior #Ashlee Trotter# hit a solo home run to left to make it 5-3 in the top of the fifth, but the Jacks came back to take their only lead of the game with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Otters retook the lead in the top of the sixth inning.  With two outs, senior #Easton Henrikson# and sophomore #Shae Olds# both recorded two-run homers.  CSUMB extended its lead with five runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by Henrikson's second home run and Ames first.

Starter #Shelair Rowell# picked up her eighth victory of the season after 5.1 innings.

In the opener, the Jacks took a quick 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning highlighted by a grand slam by Lindsay Warren.

CSUMB rallied back in the top of the second on freshman #Caydi Dommeyer#'s first collegiate grand slam to make it 6-4.  However, the Jacks responded with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning again of the bat of Warren to move the score to 8-4.

The Otters recorded their final run of the first game in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by Ames. HSU added three more runs in the fourth to finish the scoring for both teams.

Due to weather, the Otters-Jacks non-conference doubleheader scheduled on Sunday has been canceled.  CSUMB returns home for a four-game series against Sonoma State beginning on Friday, March 27.  First pitch is 1 p.m.
