ARCATA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader by a single run to No. 5 Humboldt State in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action. The final scores were 5-4 and 7-6.
The Lumberjacks got on the board first, on a two-run homer by Lindsay Warren.
CSUMB tied the game in their half of the inning, on back-to-back home runs by #Niki Ames# and #Shelair Rowell#. The Otters than took the lead on solo home runs by #Shae Olds# and Rowell.
Then it was HSU's turn to tie the game, this time with a two-run homer by Natalie Galletly.
The Jacks pulled off the victory in their last at bat by scoring on a CSUMB error with the bases loaded.
In the nightcap, HSU held a 5-0 lead after three innings.
Olds hit her second home run of the day to get the Otters on the board in the fourth inning. Senior #Ashlee Trotter# then hit a three-run homer over the right field wall to close the gap to 5-4.
HSU added another run in the fourth on a solo home run by Nikki Ketteringham.
CSUMB followed suit with a solo home run by #Jennifer Montez# in the top of the fifth.
Another HSU home run stretched the gap to two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Otters attempted a rally in the seventh inning when #Lucia Rodriguez# led off with a double and Olds brought her across the plate with a single.
CSUMB outhit the Jacks in both games, 10-5 and 12-10.
The Otters continue their series with the Jacks on Saturday, March 21. Due to the weather, the first pitch has been moved up to 9 a.m.
