ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – In the Seawolf Invitational finale, the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team pulled off a 5-3 nine-inning victory over host Sonoma State on Sunday. The Otters dropped a 4-2 decision earlier in the day to Grand Canyon University.
Against the Seawolves, senior #Michelle Tating# pitched seven innings of relief to pick up the victory, allowing only three hits and no runs.
Sonoma jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings of play.
Sophomore #Shae Olds# blasted a two-run homer over the left field wall to get the Otters on the board in the fourth inning. CSUMB tied the game in the fifth inning on junior #Shelair Rowell#'s sacrifice fly.
After neither team was able to score in the first extra inning, the Otters broke the tie and added an insurance run on a wild pitch that brought juniors #Arleen Costa# and #Lucia Rodriguez# across the plate.
In the opener against Grand Canyon, the Otters rallied in the seventh inning by scoring two runs after being down 4-0. Freshman #Melissa Turney# hit a RBI single and freshman #Jessica Moon# scored on a ground out.
Olds led the Otters at the plate with three hits on the day.
The Otters return to conference play on Friday, March 20 to begin a four-game series against No. 3 Humboldt State. First pitch is 1 p.m.
