FIRST PITCH:
After completely sweeping a six game series against the San Bernardino Coyotes last weekend, the Otters hit the road once again to compete in tournament action. The Seawolves Invitational, a three-day series of single games, will feature Sonoma State, Chico State, and Grand Canyon University. The Otters will open the invitational against the Seawolves of Sonoma,11:00 a.m, at the Seawolf Softball Diamond.

NEXT WEEK:
CSUMB ventures to Arcata to carry forward conference play against the Lumberjacks of Humboldt State. 

SCOUTING TOURNAMENT OPPONENTS:
Sonoma State (8-12, 6-9 CCAA) just finished playing a rare triple-header last weekend against UCSD. The Sonoma State softball team picked up one win against UC San Diego on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons won game one (9-1) and game three (5-0) with the Seawolves taking game two (2-1). Top hitters for the Seawolves are: Simon Brandalise (.333 avg, 20 H, 8 RBI, 2 2B); Nicole Cordova (.292 avg, 14 H, 9 RBI, 3 2B). Chico State (5-14, 3-9 CCAA) is on a six-game losing streak. In previous games, Chico State lost a pair of one-run games in the doubleheader opener Friday and were also shut out and lost yet another one-run decision Saturday, as the Warriors of Stanislaus registered 5-0 and 6-5 wins to complete a four game series sweep at Warrior Softball Field. Top hitters for the Wildcats are: Jenna Wermos (.278 avg, 15 H, 7 RBI, 2 2B); Gwen Cox (.206 avg, 13 H, 6 2B, 10 SB); Christin Johnson (.273 avg, 15 H, 7 RBI). Last, Grand Canyon University (20-8, 5-6 PacWest) recently played seven games in Hawaii and concluded with a record of 3-4. Top hitters for Lopes are: Randi Johns (.481 avg, 38 H, 32 RBI, 4 HR); Tracy Lubken (.407avg, 35 H, 20 RBI, 6 2B); Yasmeen Watkins (.357 avg, 30 H, 33 RBI, 3 HR).

CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO- DAY ONE:
The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team swept the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, March 6, in CCAA action. The Otters took game one 3-2 before shutting out the Coyotes 5-0 in the nightcap. The Otters took game one 3-2 before shutting out the Coyotes 5-0 in the nightcap. The Otters jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a double by #Shae Olds# and #Lucia Rodriguez#'s 2-run home run to center field. The Coyotes scored a single run in the fourth on a CSUMB error. CSUSB added another run in the sixth on a walk with bases loaded. #Shelair Rowell# (5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 5 SO) earned the victory and #Jessica Boyle# (1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 SO) came in for relief to grab the save. In the closer #Niki Ames# singled to second base to score leadoff batter #Alma Lopez# in the third. With two outs, Rodriguez hit a 2-run double to center field. Ashlee Trotter's 2 RBI double to left center field clinched the victory of the Otters. #Michelle Tating# (7.0 IP, 4 H, 6 SO) pitched a complete seven-inning game shutout to record the victory.  #Jennifer Montez# and Rodriguez both went 3-for-6 on the day with Rodriguez hitting her fourth home run of the season.

CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO - DAY TWO:

The Cal State Monterey Bay softball completed a four-game CCAA series sweep against the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, March 7, at the Otter Softball Field.  The Otters jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning on two-out single by Shae Olds that scored #Jennifer Montez# who led off with a double. CSUSB's Ashley Collinwood hit a home run to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the frame. CSUMB added another run in the second on a bases loaded walk and two more in the third inning on a CSUSB error and sacrifice fly. #Lucia Rodriguez# blasted her fifth home run of the year to begin the fifth inning, 5-1 CSUMB. The Coyotes closed the gap to 5-4 with three runs in the sixth inning, but the Otters extended their lead with four runs of their own on four hits and one Coyote error making it 9-4. CSUSB added one more run in the top of the seventh. In the closer, both teams scored all their runs in the opening inning.  CSUSB's Debbie Shisler scored on a pass ball to take a 1-0 lead. The Otters tied the game on Rodriguez's RBI single to right field with two outs. #Niki Ames# scored the game-winning run on a ground out by #Jamie Moon#. Olds led the Otters with three hits in the opener while Rodriguez followed with two hits and three runs. In the nightcap, #Shelair Rowell# had a team-high two hits. #Jessica Boyle# (6.0 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 3 SO) and Rowell (7.0 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 SO) each recorded the wins and #Michelle Tating# (1.0 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 1 SO) picked up the save.

CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO - DAY THREE:
Junior #Lucia Rodriguez# and sophomore #Shae Olds# both scored game-winning home runs to lift the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team to a twinbill victory and a six-game sweep, a program first, against the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes on Sunday at Otter Softball Field. The Otters pulled off a 4-3 comeback in game one and took a 1-0 victory in the nightcap. In the opener, the Otters outhit the Coyotes by a narrow margin, 6-5.  Rodriguez belted a 2-run homer in the bottom of the sixth after senior #Ashlee Trotter# recorded a single to left field to lead off the inning. #Jessica Boyle# picked up her third win of the year, fanning three batters in two innings of relief. Cassidy Lee took the loss for CSUSB. The lone run in the nightcap came from Olds, the leadoff batter in the fourth inning, to clinch the shutout victory. Freshman Jessica Moon pitched 6.2 innings, struck out two and allowed only four hits, for her first collegiate victory. Boyle finished the game and earned her third save of the season.

COMMENTS BY COACH KENNEY:
On CSUSB games: “Cal State San Bernardino is a quality opponent,” said Otters head coach Andrea Kenney. “It seems there is nowhere like home.

“#Shae Olds#, #Jennifer Montez# and #Lucia Rodriguez# had great hitting performances and it was great to see #Jessica Moon# pitch well.”

On upcoming games: “The tourney this weekend gives us an opportunity to play a good regional opponent, Grand Canyon University. The next few weeks are important for us. We need to stay focus and continue to play well.”

RODRIGUEZ EARNS SECOND CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Cal State Monterey Bay's #Lucia Rodriguez# was named the Worth/California Collegiate Athletic Association's Softball Player of the Week for the week of March 2-8.  It marks the second time this season that Rodriguez has been honored.The junior outfielder from Rialto, Calif. helped the Otters complete a six-game sweep of Cal State San Bernardino. Over the six games, Rodriguez batted .474 (9-for-19) with six runs scored, eight RBI, two doubles and three home runs. She recorded a 1.053 slugging percentage and .474 on-base percentage. During four CCAA games, Rodriguez hit .462 (6-for-13) with four runs scored, a double, two home runs and six RBI. Rodriguez leads the conference in home runs (6), runs scored (15) and total bases (53). “Lucia has been incredible this season,” said Otters head coach Andrea Kenney. “She is solid on defense and at the plate. Another great product from Kelly Ford and the Mt Sac Junior college program.”
