TURLOCK, Calif. – Senior #Ashlee Trotter# and sophomore #Shae Olds# each hit two-run home runs to lift the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team to their first victory of 2009, a 5-1 win over Chico State in their final game of the Best of the West Invitational at Pedretti Park.
The Otters were schedule to play Notre Dame de Namur at 4:00 p.m., but the Argonauts forfeited due to multiple injuries. CSUMB was rewarded a 7-0 victory.
CSUMB outhit Chico State, 13-5.
Junior pitcher #Shelair Rowell# got her third start of the season and improved to 1-1 overall. Rowell gave up only five hits and no earned runs.
Chico State took a 1-0 lead on a CSUMB error in the third inning.
The Otters rallied back in the fifth on a two-out single by junior #Niki Ames#. Trotter blasted a homer to give CSUMB a 2-1 lead.
Freshman #Jamie Moon# kicked off the sixth inning with a single to center field. Olds hit her first bomb of the season and her seventh of her career, a two-run shot that gave CSUMB a 4-1 cushion.
Junior #Lucia Rodriguez# raised the Otters lead to 5-1 on a fielder's choice that scored Ames from third.
The Otters (2-3-1) compete in the Cal State San Bernardino Regional Preview Tournament next weekend; kicking off with Regis University on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 9:00 a.m. CSUMB will also be competing against Adams State, Colorado School of Mines and Notre Dame de Namur.
