TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team began Day 2 of the Best of the West Invitational with a 8-3 loss to the Lopes of Grand Canyon University. In their second game, the Otters were shutout 3-0 to UC San Diego.
In game one, junior #Niki Ames# hit the Otters first homerun of the season as the leadoff hitter in the second inning to close in on the GCU's lead of 3-2. Freshman #Caydi Dommeyer# recorded the only double for the Otters. Senior #Ashley Trotter#, junior #Shelair Rowell# and senior #Rachelle Morales# each had a single.
Seniors #Jessica Boyle# (3.0 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 3 ER, 2 SO) and #Michelle Tating# (3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB) pitched three innings apiece and freshman
Jessica Moon (1.0 IP, 2 H) wrapped the last inning.
Against the Tritons, junior #Jennifer Montez# and Trotter each notched singles for the Otters. Rowell pitched a complete game, giving up five hits and walking only two batters.
The Otters take on Chico State at 1:45 p.m. and Notre Dame de Numur in their BWI finale at 4:00 p.m.
