Game 2

CARSON, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team saw its early leads fall away in both games of the doubleheader against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday at Toro Diamond. The final scores were 5-2 and 5-3.

Sophomore #Shae Olds# led the Otters offense, going 4-for-5 with two runs batted in. Senior #Ashlee Trotter# was 3-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI.

In game one, junior #Lucia Rodriguez# reached on a fielder choice and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Trotter singled to put runners on the corners and senior #Valerie Calderon# hit a single up the middle to score the first run of the game in the second inning.

Trotter's single in the fourth inning drove in Rodriguez to give the Otters a 2-0 advantage.

The Toros did what proved to be the game-winning damage in the sixth inning, putting five runs on the board.

In the series closer, the Otters began the first inning with the bases loaded after two CSUDH errors and hit by pitch.  Olds singled through the left side to give the Otters a 1-0 lead.  The Toros tied the score at 1-1 in the second inning.

Junior #Jennifer Montez# and Trotter singled in the third inning, before Olds singled to center field to retake the lead, 2-1.  The Otters added another run on junior #Shelair Rowell#'s sacrifice fly to right field.

The Toros tied the game in their side of the frame, 2-2.

CSUDH scored the winning run while adding two insurance runs in the fourth inning on two hits and a CSUMB error.

Rowell (5-3) and senior #Jessica Boyle# (2-4) picked up the losses.

The Otters (11-7-1, 5-3 CCAA) return home on Friday, March 6, welcoming Cal State San Bernardino to the Otter Softball Field.  First pitch is 1 p.m.
