CSUMB Drops 66-59 Decision To Broncos

SEASIDE, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team dropped a 66-59 decision to Cal Poly Pomona in its regular season finale on Friday at the Otter Sports Center.

Senior #Joe Mitchell# recorded his 22nd career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Senior #Steve Monreal# led the Otters with 18 points and three steals.  Junior #Sean Jergo# added 10 points.

The Otters got things started with an ally-opp dunk by Mitchell from Monreal.  CSUMB took a 16-12 lead on a layup by Mitchell.

Both teams battled for the lead for the next four minutes before the Broncos went on an 8-0 run, finishing on a 3-pointer by CPP's Walter Thompson.

With 44 seconds left, senior #Jose Sanchez# connected on a 3-pointer to close within three points. CPP clinched the victory on four free throws.

The Otters won the battle of the boards, pulling down 26 rebounds to the Broncos' 19.

CSUMB will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills on Tuesday in Carson in the first round of the CCAA tournament.   Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
