SEASIDE, Calif. – Junior #Helen Suarez# led the Otters with 16 points and six assists as the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team completed their first series sweep of the season on Thursday with a 65-50 victory over Cal State San Bernardino at the Otter Sports Center.

CSUMB improved to 11-14 and 6-13 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.

Junior #Janet Oseguera# scored 14 points while pulling down eight rebounds.  Senior #Aly Tsuchiyama# led the team for the fourth time this season in boards, recording nine.

CSUMB took a 29-20 lead into the intermission.

The Otters shot a 49.0 percent, a season-high against conference opponents. CSUMB won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding the Coyotes, 32-25.

“Tonight was a true team effort,” said Otters head coach Renee Jimenez. “Everyone locked in and did their jobs.

“Lindsay Trout and Denelle Baker played fantastic defense on (Krystal) Urzua tonight, making her work for every shot.”

CSUMB returns to the Kelp Bed on Friday, Feb. 27, for its final home game of the regular season.  The Otters welcome Cal Ply Pomona at 5:30 p.m. Prior to the game, the Otters will honor their three seniors, #Anna Pineda#, #Aly Tsuchiyama# and #Dana Andrews#.
