FIRST PITCH:
After sweeping San Francisco State last weekend, the Otters continue with conference games while heading down South. CSUMB will travel to Cal State Dominguez Hills to compete in two double headers. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Toro Diamond.
NEXT WEEK:
CSUMB returns home after a long stretch of away games to host the Coyotes of San Bernardino. This series will include a three-day double header set of games. First game is scheduled for Friday, March. 6, at 1 p.m.
SCOUTING THE TOROS:
Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-7, 3-1 CCAA) defeated Academy of Arts on Saturday, Feb. 21 in a doubleheader in Carson, Calif. Scoring all their runs in the first two innings, the Toros finished the opener with 8-4 win. All nine Toros in the starting batting order garnered a hit off the Knights starting pitcher. In game two, CSUDH raced out to an early lead in the nightcap to hold on to a 3-2 victory. Players to watch: Regina Farfan (.211 avg, 9 RBI, 3 HR, 6 SO); Emily McEwen (.526 avg, 15 RBI, 5 HR, 2 2B, 2 3B); Kristin Tanaka (.333 avg, 5 RBI, 2 2B).

SAN FRANCISCO STATE - DAY ONE:
The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team kicked-off their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) schedule with a sweep against the Gators of San Francisco State, on Friday, Feb. 20. The Otters took the opener 10-0 in five innings and posted a come-from-behind 5-3 victory in the nightcap. In game one, #Caydi Dommeyer# (2-5, 2 RBI, 1 R), #Rachelle Morales# (2-3, 1 H), #Ashlee Trotter# (2-3, 1 R) and #Shelair Rowell# (2-4, 1 R) each recorded two hits. #Lucia Rodriguez# hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning. Trotter and Rodriguez joined #Jennifer Montez# with two hits apiece in the nightcap.
SAN FRANCISCO STATE - DAY TWO:
After recording a 4-1 win in game one, the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team pounded out 10 hits to a 9-1 victory in the nightcap on Saturday to complete a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) sweep over San Francisco State.. In the opener, senior #Ashlee Trotter# hit a RBI single to center field to give the Otters a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Senior #Rachelle Morales# scored on a Gators error and junior #Shelair Rowell# hit a two-run home run over the left field wall to raise the Otters lead to 4-0. The Gators scored their only run came in the sixth inning. Rowell (4.2 IP, 3 H, 4 SO, 3 BB) recorded her fourth victory and senior #Jessica Boyle# (2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 SO) nabbed her first save of the year. The Otters came out strong in the second game, taking a 3-0 lead after two innings of play. CSUMB added four more runs before the Gators scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Otters nabbed two runs in the top of the sixth inning to invoke the eight-run mercy rule. Sophomore #Shae Olds# (2-4, 1 HR, 2 2B, 2 RBI) recorded her third home run of the season. Morales also had two hits in the second game. In relief, Boyle (3.0 IP, 1 R, 2 SO, 1 BB) picked up her second win of the season.
COMMENTS BY COACH KENNEY:
Against SFSU - “We played well over the weekend. We seemed to pull it all together, solid pitching, hitting and defense.”
Preparing for CSUDH - “I hope it carries over to this weekend as we are seeing a very good opponent in Carson City.”
RODRIGUEZ NAMED CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
#Lucia Rodriguez# was named CCAA player of the week Feb. 23, 2009. The junior outfielder from Rialto, Calif., enjoyed a productive week at the plate as she helped the Otters to a four-game road CCAA sweep at San Francisco State. Rodriguez batted .467 (7-for-15), had a pair of doubles, home run, scored three runs and had five RBI. She collected two multiple-hit games while posting an .800 slugging percentage and .467 on-base percentage.
