SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team lost its second game in a week by under five points as the Otters fell, 67-63, to the visiting Eagles of Cal State L.A. on Saturday at the Otters Sports Center.
Junior #Janet Oseguera# led the Otters, recording her second double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Oseguera was also perfect at the charity stripe, going 9-for-9. Junior #Helen Suarez# dished out a game-high six assists while recording three steals. Senior #Dana Andrews# added 18 points and nine rebounds.
The Otters tied the game at 15-15 on two free throws by Oseguera at 9:38 in the opening half. Junior #Denelle Baker# began a 10-1 run with a trey at the nine minute mark.
In the second half, Oseguera completed an old-fashioned 3-point play at 9:59 to give the Otters a 48-45 lead. The Eagles answered with a 10-0 run before senior #Aly Tsuchiyama# drove for a layup to make it 55-50 CSULA.
Andrews connected on a 3-pointer to close CSULA's lead to 65-60. CSULA's Ashley Kitchen hit the back-end of her free-throw. Junior #Lindsay Trout# hit a three to close gap to three points with thirty second remaining in the game. Shyneese Walter made her second free throw to secure the CSULA win.
The Otters shot 85.0 percent (17-for-20) from the free throw line but finished with a season-low 28.0 field goal percentage to CSULA's 43.3 percent.
CSUMB out-rebounded the Eagles, 47-35, with a season-high 21 offensive boards.
The Otters (9-13, 4-12 CCAA) compete in their final road games next week, first taking on cross-bay rival San Francisco State on Wednesday, Feb. 18, before heading south for a match-up against No. 10 UC San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 21.
