Game Notes
FIRST PITCH:
After finishing 2-2 in the Mizuno Invitational Tournament last weekend, the Otters continue with their last stretch of non-conference games. CSUMB will travel to Cal State San Bernardino and compete in five games in the tournament. First game is Saturday, Feb. 14, against Regis University at 9 a.m. Following games will be verse Adams State, Colorado of the Mines and Notre Dame de Namur.
CSUSB TOURNAMENT PREVIEW:
The Otters open the tournament against Regis University on Saturday, Feb. 14. The Rangers reign from Colorado Springs, Colorado and are currently 1-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference division II athletics. After dropping two to Fort Hays on Sat. Feb. 7th, the Rangers returned on the 8th to split with the Thunderwolves. Colorado State Pueblo ran away with the first victory 5-4 before Regis came back to defeat them 6-3. The Otters battle the Grizzlies of Adams State next. The Grizzlies are also apart of RMAC and currently have a overall record of 0-0. This will be ASC's first game of the 2009 season. Next, CSUMB will take on the Orediggers of Colorado of the Mines. CSM has an overall record of 1-3 and is coming off a two game losing streak after being toppled in a double-header series verse Emporia State. The Otters will play the Orediggers twice, both on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m. To close out tournament play, the women's softball team will face the Argonauts of Notre Dame de Namur. Currently, NDNU has a record of 2-3-1. Earlier this year, the Argos used a pair of excellent pitching performances to surrender just one earned run over the two games winning one and tying the next. (4-1, 2-2).
NEXT WEEK:
After two consecutive tournaments, the Otters begin CCAA competition. Friday, Feb. 20, CSUMB plays in a double-headers against SFSU beginning at 1 p.m. Second series against SFSU follows on Saturday, Feb. 21. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
MIZUNO TOURNAMENT RECAP:
After being rained out on the first day of the Mizuno Tournament, the Otters resume play on Saturday. In game one, junior #Niki Ames# hit the Otters first homerun of the season as the leadoff hitter in the second inning to close in on the GCU's lead of 3-2. Freshman #Caydi Dommeyer# recorded the only double for the Otters. Senior #Ashley Trotter#, junior #Shelair Rowell# and senior #Rachelle Morales# each had a single. Seniors #Jessica Boyle# (3.0 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 3 ER, 2 SO) and #Michelle Tating# (3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB) pitched three innings apiece and freshman
Jessica Moon (1.0 IP, 2 H) wrapped the last inning.
Against the Tritons, junior #Jennifer Montez# and Trotter each notched singles for the Otters. Rowell pitched a complete game, giving up five hits and walking only two batters..

Post Mizuno Tournament - “We are a team that is full of new faces. I feel that we are improving with each game. We have been hitting the ball hard but right at the defense. We played well against a good Chico State team. ”
Projected CSUSB Tournament - “The CSUSB tourney offers us a chance to play some Nationally ranked teams, we look forward to the challenge.”
CCAA PRESEASON STORY:
Monday, Jan. 27, 2009- Defending national and conference regular-season champion Humboldt State has been selected as the preseason favorite to capture the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) crown in 2009 following a vote of conference coaches, it was announced on Monday.

LOCAL STANDOUT PICKS CSUMB :
The Cal State Monterey Bay head softball coach
Andrea Kenney has announced the signing of local standout Kylie Linnane, from Notre Dame High School in Salinas, Calif. Linnane, a pitcher, was a member of the winning pitcher in the 2008 Division III CCS championship game with 14 strikeouts. She pitched in a total of three CCSS playoff games, consisting of 18 innings and giving up no runs while striking out 26 batters. In her senior year, Linnane racked up 145 strikeouts in 98 innings, pitching a total of 21 games. Her final earned run average was. 0.79. For her efforts, she was named to the Tri-County League First Team, All-County First Team, All-Valley First Team, and All-State Medium Schools First Team. Linnane was a two-time selection for The Californian Athlete of the Week her sophomore year and also led her team to victory in the 2006 Division III CCS championship game. “What we are looking for are athletes that will take us to the next level, a Conference and a National championship, Kylie is exactly that,” Kenney said. “There is no question in my mind that she will develop into the premier pitcher in the conference. She is a highly sought after recruit, who not only excels on the field but in the classroom as well, the fact that she chose CSUMB says a lot about the University and the softball program.” Linnane plans to major in Nutrition, Health and Fitness at CSUMB.
