OPENING TIP:

The Otters will host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday and will look to pick up a series sweep over Cal State L.A. on Saturday.

LOOKING AHEAD:
After two consecutive weeks of play in the Kelp Bed, the Otters take the road for the last time of the season. CSUMB battles cross-city rival San Francisco State on Wednesday, Feb. 18 and No. 10 UC San Diego the following night at RIMAC Arena. 

SCOUTING THE TOROS:
Cal State Dominguez Hills (13-8, 8-6 CCAA) is currently slotted 4th in CCAA conference standings. The Toros are also ranked in individual scoring, sophomore Neka Mixon leads the conference in scoring with 17.2 ppg. In the previous games, split at home with a dominate win and six-point loss. The Toros defeated CSULA 72-35. CSUDH came close but could not down visiting No. 10 UC San Diego in a 69-63 loss. Players to watch: Neka Mixon (17.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 67), Ennisha Kyles (12.2 ppg, 7.6 rpg), Brittney Blackenship (8.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 86.9 free throw percentage, 3.9 assist per game).

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES:
Cal State L.A. (3-18, 2-12 CCAA) is on a two game losing streak after falling short to both CSUDH and nationally ranked UC San Diego. The Eagles are struggling this season only securing two conference wins and three overall. Players to watch: Shatori Dearman (8.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg), Amber Whittington (8.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 36 assists), Shyneese Walter (7.5 ppg, 76.5 free throw percentage, 30 assists, 26 steals).

OTTERS BREAK INTO NATIONAL STATISTICS:
CSUMB finds itself ranked 106th in the nation in free throw percentage (70.9). Individually, junior #Helen Suarez# is in the national top 100 in assists per game (4.6, 49th).

AGAINST HUMBOLDT STATE:
The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team dropped a 78-56 decision to Humboldt State on Friday, Feb 6, at the Otter Sports Center. Junior #Helen Suarez# led the Otters with 14 points and three steals.  Junior #Janet Oseguera# recorded a team-high seven rebounds while scoring 12 points. Senior #Dana Andrews# added 11 points and was perfect at the charity stripe, going 8-for-8.

AGAINST SONOMA STATE:

CSUMB women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday, Feb. 7, falling to the Seawolves of Sonoma State, 52-51, at the Otters Sports Center. Senior #Dana Andrews# led the Otters with 12 points and nine rebounds.  Senior #Aly Tsuchiyama# tied a career-high with nine rebounds. Freshman #Devin Riezebos# added 10 points. 

ANDREWS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT:
Showing off her academic talent, #Dana Andrews# was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American District VIII Women's Basketball College Division team last week.  She was a first-team selection and is now eligible for the national team which will be announced at the end of February. Andrews is pursuing a bachelor's degree in business with an emphasis in marketing. Named to the Dean's list six times and appearing on the All-CCAA Women's Basketball Academic team twice, Andrews shows her versatility on and off the court. 

SUAREZ SMOOTH IN THE CCAA:
Junior #Helen Suarez# broke her four-game streak of scoring 20-plus points, with only scoring a combined 21 points in the two previous games. Suarez is averaging 15.5 ppg, which lands her 5th in the conference rankings. Also in those rankings, Suarez is in 2nd place in steals (2.5), 1st in assists per game (4.6) and 5th in free throw percentage (74.6).

MAKING HISTORY:
The Otters are currently sitting in second in the CCAA with a 70.0 free throw percentage. In a total of 20 games, CSUMB has tallied 297 free throws out of 419.

#Dana Andrews# – 4th in scoring (15.9 per game); 2nd in three-point field goals made (2.2 per game); 10th in three-point field percentage (34.7 percent); 12th in rebounding (6.5 per game); 6th in defensive rebounding (5.3 per game); 2nd in free throw percentage (81.6 percent).

#Helen Suarez# – 5th in scoring (15.5 per game); 1st in assists (4.6 per game); 1st in steals (2.5 per game); 5th in free throw percentage (74.6 percent).

#Janet Oseguera# – 28th in scoring (8.6 per game); 1st in field goal percentage (58.3 percent); 13th in offensive rebounding (2.3 per game); 18th in rebounding (5.8 per game).
