SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team posted a come-from-behind victory over conference rival San Francisco State, 50-47, on Wednesday night at the Otter Sports Center.
The Otters improve to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action. The Gators fell to 4-5, 1-2 in CCAA play.
Senior #Veronica Williams# led the Otters with 16 points and seven rebounds. Senior #Jazz Herrera# also pulled down seven rebounds. Junior #Michelle Santizo# scored 13 points and junior #London Houchin# chipped in seven points.
After the Gators held a 26-18 lead at halftime, CSUMB pulled within one point four times. The Otters finally got over the hump on a lay-up by junior #Helen Suarez# to give CSUMB its first lead of the game just under the ten minute mark, 37-36.
SF State's Donisha Tate made the back-end of her free throw to tie the game at 37-37.
Jessica Hout-Freeman's jumper on the baseline gave the Gators a 39-37 lead.
Williams connected on a three-pointer from the corner to give the Otters back the lead and Santizo's three-point extended it to 43-39.
SF State baskets by Dominique Hunter and Ashlee Austin-Bean tied the game at 43-43.
A Williams' three-pointer gave CSUMB back the lead 46-43 but SF State would not go away as ZaLisha Oliver made both free throws, 46-45.
A Three-pointer by Santizo raised the Otters lead to 49-45
Austin-Bean scored the final field goal of the game at 3:02, 49-47 CSUMB.
Houchin's free throw with 10 seconds remaining clinched the Otter victory, 50-47.
The Gators were led by Andrea Ohlssen with 10 point and Hunter pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Otters were out-rebounded 34-27.
CSUMB travels to the Bay Area on Sunday, Dec. 13 to take on NAIA Menlo College at 5 p.m.
