SEASIDE, Calif.
– Competing for the final time this season, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the Wildcats of Chico State on Sunday afternoon at the Otter Soccer Complex.

The Otters close the 2009 season with a 4-13-3 record, 3-11-2 in conference play. The Wildcats will continue its 2009 season, as they have clinched the northern division title and a berth for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tournament next week in Turlock.

"The women outshot and had more corners than the No. 1 team in the north and CCAA playoff team," said Otters head coach #Artie Cairel#.

On offense, CSUMB outshot the Chico State, firing 12 shots to the Wildcats nine.

Wildcats' Ali Sward found Lisa Webster to give Chico State a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of play.

In the 33rd minute, the Otters had a chance to tie the game on a penalty kick by junior #Jessica Pardo# but the shot was reflected off the gloves of Chico State's Natalie Bensky.

The Wildcats added to their lead in the 64th minute with the same combination of Webster and Sward.

CSUMB answered just two minutes later when freshman #Marlina Massagli# sent a long cross to senior #Sarah Alderson# who scored her fourth goal of the season, tenth of her career.

Before the contest, the CSUMB women's soccer program bid farewell to six seniors; #Sarah Alderson#, #Cheri Schwanke#, #Shelly Lungstrum#, #Kyla Flores#, #Krysta Vukas# and #Alyssa Matheson#.

"The seniors built a strong sense of team and fight within this team," Cairel said. "Their legacy will have a long and lasting impact on teh women's soccer program. They never quit.

"I couldn't be more proud of them and am very excited to begin my second season."
