SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team earned a dramatic 3-2 victory over San Francisco State on Friday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex. Senior #Eric Alsop#'s golden goal came in the 87th minute to lift CSUMB to 5-9-3 (4-6-3 CCAA).
SF State took an early 1-0 lead in the 9th minute when Edgar Villagrana scored on cross from Spencer Schwandt.
The Otters tied the game 1-1 just three minutes into the second half. Junior #Grant Robson# took a free kick that crossed the face of the goal to freshman #Max Brixey# who tapped it to Alsop and drilled it to the side netting.
CSUMB took its first lead of the game 11 minutes later when Brixey connected on his first collegiate goal on a cross from senior #Nate Torricelli#.
The Gators equalized the game in the 81st minute when Dylan Glass scored on a cross from Charles Conway.
With less than three minutes remaining in regulation, Alsop recorded his second goal of the game by heading in a cross by Torricelli.
“The team showed some old school soccer style in front of a boisterous alumni crowd,” said head coach #Artie Cairel#. “It was awesome to reward them with a victory.
“The goals were high quality and Eric (Alsop) came up big with the game winner.”
CSUMB outshot the Gators 11-5 and senior goalkeeper #Brenden Baca# collected one save.
The Otters will try to close out their road schedule on Sunday, Oct. 25 by traveling to San Francisco State for a 11:30 a.m. kickoff.
