SEASIDE, Calif.
– In its biggest win in program history, the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters men's soccer team defeated No. 7 Sonoma State 2-0 on Friday afternoon at the Otter Soccer Complex.

The win improves to 4-8-3 overall and 3-5-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. The Seawolves are now 11-2-2, 8-2-1 in conference action.

The Otters jumped on the board seven minutes into the game when junior #Eric Pratt# was fouled inside the Seawolves penalty box.  Senior #Nate Torricelli# took the penalty shot, sending it low to the left corner and giving the Otters a 1-0 lead.

Just three minutes later, junior #Grant Robson# sent a perfect cross from deep within the left corner and senior #Eric Alsop# headed the ball in for his first collegiate goal.

Three minutes into the second half, the Seawolves took an indirect kick from 10 yards from the CSUMB goal line after a foul was called inside the penalty box, but sent it over high over the goal.

Senior #Brenden Baca# recorded his fourth shutout of the season, finishing with six saves as the Otters were outshot 15-8.

“Beating the No. 7 team in the country via a shutout was a great testament to the heart and determination of this group,” said head coach Artie Cairel. “We earned the result that we have been so close to getting this season.

“Hopefully this will be the impetus of a quality run to the finish.”

The Otters welcome the Lumberjacks of Humboldt State on Sunday, Oct. 18. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
