OPENING TIP:
The Otters are looking to build off last Saturday's victory over Cal State San Bernardino, their first victory over the Coyotes in CSUMB's eight match-ups.
LOOKING AHEAD:
After a month full of road games, the Otters are anxious to return home to host Humboldt State University on Friday, Feb. 6, at the Otters Sports Center.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS:
Cal State Stanislaus (8-9, 3-7 CCAA) started the season winning six of its first seven games. Since then the Wildcats have lost eight of the last 10 games and find themselves below .500 for the first time this season. The Warriors could not survive a good shooting night as they suffered a 73-62 loss to No. 21 UC San Diego Friday, Jan 23, in the RIMAC. Players to watch: Gwendolyn Page (14.5 ppg, 7.2 rpg), Katie Busi (12.1 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 44 blocks).
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:
Chico State (9-7, 5-4 CCAA) has held to its lowest offensive output in 12 years as the Tritons of UC San Diego used a 23-4 second half run to down the Wildcats 62-38 on Saturday, Jan 24 at the RIMAC Arena. On Jan 16, Cal STate Dominguez Hills snapped the Wildcats 16-game in-conference home winning streak, with a 63-55 decision. Players to watch: Natasha Smith (12.8 ppg, 49 assists, 26 steals), Renee Goldoff (10.3 ppg, 6.1 rpg).
OTTERS BREAK INTO NATIONAL STATISTICS:
CSUMB finds itself ranked 99th in the nation in free throw percentage (71.3). Individually, junior #Helen Suarez# is in the national top 100 of two categories: points per game (16.4, 82nd) and assists per game (4.8, 42nd). Senior #Dana Andrews# is ranked 74th after averaging 16.5 points per game.
AGAINST CAL POLY POMONA:
The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team was unable to snap out of its losing skid on Friday, Jan 23, falling to the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona by a score of 69-57. The Otters were led by junior #Helen Suarez#, tying a season-high with 24 points and adding four assists. Senior #Dana Andrews# recorded her second double-double of the season, with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
AGAINST CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO:
Senior #Dana Andrews# scored 26 points, with 22 in the second half, to lead the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team to a 65-58 road victory over Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday. The Otters recorded their first victory against Cal State San Bernardino since joining the CCAA five years ago. Earlier this year, CSUMB opened the conference with a 50-46 victory over Chico State, breaking the Wildcats' eight-game win streak over the Otters. Junior #Helen Suarez#, the CCAA assist leader, chipped in 20 points with eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Junior #Janet Oseguera# had a game-high 10 rebounds to go with her six points.

Saturday's Game - “I am really proud of the way we fought for 40 minutes. We won the battle on the boards and we knew if we did that we would win the game. When we came out after half time, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work. I am thrilled about the ending of the first half of conference on a strong note. We are excited about the momentum this win is giving us in starting the second half.”
RECORD WATCH:
Senior #Dana Andrews# added milestone to her numberous achievements at CSUMB, tying the career record for steals. She is now tied with former teammate
Alma Lopez with 116. Andrews passed the 1,000 point milestone on Nov. 15 against University of Mary.
SUAREZ SMOOTH IN THE CCAA:
Junior #Helen Suarez# recorded her sixth 20-plus game in the Otters last game vs. Cal State San Bernardino. Suarez has also elevated to the top of the scoring charts against CCAA opponents, averaging 18.9 ppg, which lands her 1st in the conference rankings. Also in those rankings, Suarez is in 2nd place in steals (2.3), 3rd in assists per game (3.5) and 4th in free throw percentage (75.0).
MAKING HISTORY:
The Otters have surpassed the most wins in a single season with their current overall record of 9-5. CSUMB tallied a total of seven wins back in the 2006-07 season.
