Box Score

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.
– Senior #Dana Andrews# scored 26 points, with 22 in the second half, to lead the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team to a 65-58 road victory over Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday.

The Otters recorded their first victory against Cal State San Bernardino since joining the CCAA five years ago.  Earlier this year, CSUMB opened the conference with a 50-46 victory over Chico State, breaking the Wildcats' eight-game win streak over the Otters.

Junior #Helen Suarez#, the CCAA assist leader, chipped in 20 points with eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Junior #Janet Oseguera# had a game-high 10 rebounds to go with her six points.

The Coyotes closed out the first half with a 16-0 run in the last seven minutes to take a 31-20 lead into the locker room.

CSUSB began the second half strong, increasing the margin to 38-23 early, but the Otters stormed their way back into the game.

CSUMB's 17-2 run tied the score at 40-40 with 11:49 remaining on a jumper by Suarez.

The Coyotes scored the next seven points for a 47-40 advantage but the Otters came right back to tie the game at 49-49 with 7:20 left on a layup by Andrews.

A layup by CSUSB's Morgan Pryor with 3:15 left made it 56-56, but The Otters stayed persistent and outscored the Coyotes 9-2 in the final three minutes to take the win, with Andrews making four free throws and Suarez adding two in the waning minutes as CSUSB was forced to foul.

“I am really proud of the way we fought for 40 minutes,” said Otters head coach Renee Jimenez.  “We won the battle on the boards and we knew if we did that we would win the game.
“When we came out after half time, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work.”

CSUMB won the battle of the boards, pulling down 44 rebounds to the Coyotes' 41.

“I am thrilled about the ending of the first half of conference on a strong note,” Jimenez said. “We are excited about the momentum this win is giving us in starting the second half.”

The Otters (9-7, 4-6 CCAA) take on Cal State Stanislaus on Friday, Jan 30, in Turlock with a tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
