SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Despite having four players register double digits, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team fell to the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes, 63-57, on Saturday at the Coussoulis Arena. 

Senior #Steve Monreal# and junior #Keith Wilson# led the Otters with 11 points apiece, while senior #Jose Sanchez# added 10.  Senior #Joe Mitchell# snagged his sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Monreal dished out a team-high five assists and three steals.

The Coyotes held the lead throughout the first half, taking a 35-27 advantage into intermission.

Down by as much as 13 points three times in the second half, CSUMB cut the Coyotes big lead to just three points at 60-57 with 29 seconds left on a pair of free throws by Sanchez. The Otters were forced to foul and CSUSB's Reggie Brown sank a pair of free throws for a 62-57 lead at 26 seconds. Brown made another at 16 seconds to seal the deal.

CSUMB shot 77.8 percent (14-for-18) from the free throw line while the conference leading Coyotes shot only 66.7 percent (8-for-12).

“We played well enough on defense to win, but we just missed too many layups,” said Otters head coach Rob Bishop. “Unfortunately in the last two minutes we gave up two huge offensive rebounds when we got stops and they made us pay.

“I was proud how we battled tonight.  We bounced back from a woeful game at Pomona put ourselves in position but we came up short.”


Otters (11-6, 5-5 CCAA) return to action on Friday, Jan 30, when they take on Cal State Stanislaus.   Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
