SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team dropped a 62-53 decision to conference rival San Francisco State University on Friday at the Otter Sports Center.
CSUMB falls to 8-5 overall and 3-4 in the CCAA conference play.
Senior #Dana Andrews# led the Otters with 17 points and three steals. Juniors #Helen Suarez# and #Janet Oseguera# added 14 and 13 points respectively. Oseguera pulled down a team-high seven boards.
The Otters won the tip-off, and Suarez drove to the basket to score the first points of the ball game.
The Gators responded by jumping out quickly with an 11-4 lead, before the Otters mounted a comeback with a 7-0 run.
The teams traded baskets with the Gators taking a 30-29 lead into intermission on the Desiree Butler's 3-pointer, the first of the night.
Andrew's trey at 12:32 closed in on the SFSU's 39-38 lead.
After a 7-2 run, the Otters once again closed the lead to 50-47 in the second half on a jumper by Andrews. SFSU went on a 12-0 run to give them a 15 point cushion.
SFSU had three players in double-digits with Butler leading the way with 22 points.
The Otters host UC San Diego at 5:30 on Friday, Jan 16, in the Otter Sports Center. The Tritons are currently undefeated in the CCAA.
