SEASIDE, Calif. – Sophomore #Carrie LaPonza# scored her first goal of the season sealing the Cal State Monterey Bay's 1-0 victory against non-conference opponent Academy of Art University Wednesday afternoon.The win was the first for the Otters who moved to 1-7-1 on the year as the Urban Knights drop to 1-6-1.

The lone goal came 7:47 into the second half.  LaPonza dribbled up the left side, passing three AAU defenders. On a shot about 20 yards out, LaPonza bent the ball around the Urban Knight's goalie to score the winning goal.

Freshman goalie #Megan Kwasnicki# grabbed the two shots the Urban Knights fired in her direction in the second half.

CSUMB outshot AAU 15-9 with LaPonza taking four shots on goal.  Also taking shots on goal for the Otters were junior #Alyssa Matheson# with two and senior #Eva Arzola# adding one.

The Otters (1-7-1, 0-4-0 CCAA) return to conference action on Friday, Sept. 26 to host Cal State Stanislaus (4-2-2, 0-2-1 CCAA). Kick-off is at 12:30 p.m at the Otter Soccer Complex.
