SEASIDE, Calif. – Junior #Juan Pablo Murillo#'s two goals led the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team to a 2-2 tie in double overtime with Humboldt State University on Friday night. With the tie, the Otters record their first point in conference play and are now 0-4-2 and 0-2-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
Murillo headed in a corner kick by junior #Grant Robson# to give the Otters a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the game.
The Jacks scored two more times to take a 2-1 lead into the halftime break. E.J. Schneekluth and Josh Suggs were credited with the goals.
The Murillo-Robson connection worked again to tie the game at two. Robson's free kick once again found Murillo's head to score his second goal of the season.
CSUMB registered a season-high six shots on goal.
“The team showed great progress and heart playing with five freshman together for long stretches,” said head coach
Artie Cairel. “Juan Pablo was outstanding in his first game in the mid-field.”
The Otters return to the field on Sunday Sept. 21 against Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, Calif. Kick-off is at 2:00 p.m.
