ARCATA, Calif. --- None of CSU Monterey Bay's pitchers had the answer for Western Oregon's offense on Wednesday as the Wolves defeated CSUMB 9-1 in five innings in the first round of the NCAA Division II West Regional Softball Championship.
#Angela Cabral# started the game but was pulled after giving up a hit and a walk to the first two batters. #Jessica Boyle# pitched out of the jam, but then gave up four runs in the second inning. Boyle got through the third unscathed, but then gave up a two-run homer to Jessica Hallmark in the fourth and #Noemi Torres# came in to relieve her.
Torres would give up one more run in the fourth and three in the fifth when Hallmark hit her second homer. The Otters scored one run in the bottom of the fifth, but still found themselves down eight and the game was ended.
Western Oregon compiled 13 hits in the game. Hallmark finished with 6 RBIs. The Otters had just four hits. #Ashlee Trotter# had two of them and knocked in the lone run for CSUMB. Katie Fleer (19-5) earned the victory on the mound and Boyle (7-9) took the loss.
